About Sofía

Therapy is not the solution to every problem, but individual healing helps us build our collective power to create the world we deserve.

I am a queer bilingual white Latina. I’m a licensed clinical social worker seeing therapy clients virtually throughout California, and in person in Oakland.

I previously worked as a therapist at the Well Clinic, and currently see clients in person and virtually through the Center for Mindful Psychotherapy. I also work as an intake therapist at La Clínica de la Raza.

I gravitated towards gender studies as an undergrad because I wanted to understand aspects of power and oppression that conspire to stay hidden, and I came to social work wanting to work towards liberation from those oppressive power structures. Along the way, I started to reckon with the historic and ongoing harm caused by institutions like the ones I graduated from—and by my own field of social work. I aim to stay aware and accountable in situations where I cause harm, especially in areas where I hold privilege.

I believe in the deep transformative power of therapy to help us heal as individuals. And I see individual healing as one important way to build our collective power to create the world we deserve.

One of my favorite things about being a therapist is witnessing clients surprise themselves with their own potential to heal. Outside the therapy room, you can find me trying out a new recipe, working on a craft project, or trying my best to befriend the neighborhood cats.
