You deserve to receive as much care as you give.
You’ve been through a lot. You’re fiercely dedicated to living your values and being there for the people in your life, but sometimes there’s not quite enough left over for you.
You’re good at making it work and doing without, and you find ways to keep showing up. Visions of the world you’re fighting for keep you energized in the short term, but there’s a part of you that knows you can’t keep going at this pace forever.
But the good news is, you don’t have to do this alone.
Individual healing is a critical component of collective transformation.
I am a therapist who doesn’t believe therapy is the answer to everything. Many mental health issues stem from broader social issues like income inequality and housing insecurity, and these problems need to be addressed through organizing for social change.
While individual therapy is no substitute for collective action, it can help our participation in those efforts feel more sustainable and rooted.
Therapy can help you better understand your patterns in relationships, sore spots, and most common pitfalls. And when you know how to show up for yourself and ask for what you need, you can offer more to the causes and relationships you care about, without burning out.
There are so many important places to put your energy and attention. Where is your mental health on that list?
