Individual therapy for adolescents and adults

You deserve to receive as much care as you give.

You’ve been through a lot. You’re fiercely dedicated to living your values and being there for the people in your life, but sometimes there’s not quite enough left over for you.

You’re good at making it work and doing without, and you find ways to keep showing up. Visions of the world you’re fighting for keep you energized in the short term, but there’s a part of you that knows you can’t keep going at this pace forever.

But the good news is, you don’t have to do this alone.

Individual healing is a critical component of collective transformation.

I am a therapist who doesn’t believe therapy is the answer to everything. Many mental health issues stem from broader social issues like income inequality and housing insecurity, and these problems need to be addressed through organizing for social change.

While individual therapy is no substitute for collective action, it can help our participation in those efforts feel more sustainable and rooted.

Therapy can help you better understand your patterns in relationships, sore spots, and most common pitfalls. And when you know how to show up for yourself and ask for what you need, you can offer more to the causes and relationships you care about, without burning out.

There are so many important places to put your energy and attention. Where is your mental health on that list?

Individual Therapy

You may be an empathetic superstar for the people in your life, but need some support caring for yourself. When you’re an expert at meeting other people’s needs, it can feel so strange to take up space and receive compassion. I get it! I can help you practice accepting care and attention in a therapeutic space that’s just for you.

Whether you’re at the end of your rope and need to make some changes ASAP, or you’re feeling stable and want to take the plunge into a journey of growth and self-discovery, I’d be honored to work with you.

I offer 50-minute therapy sessions for individuals age 16+, with both virtual and in-person options available.

Trauma Therapy

If you want to address the impacts of trauma and find new ways of communicating, then you’ve come to the right place. Together we’ll build your awareness of your sensations and emotions, increasing your ability to feel safe within yourself. When we move slowly and prioritize emotional safety, we unlock new ways of processing and relating to traumatic memories.

LGBTQIA+ and Gender-Affirming Therapy

You may want to reflect on aspects of your gender or sexuality that you haven’t had space to explore before, or you might need help strategizing about how to navigate tough family relationships. Even if your goals for therapy don’t revolve around your gender, sexuality, or kink, you deserve a space where you won’t have to explain or justify who you are. My office is also a place for you if you’re questioning, if you don’t have words to describe your experience, or if you’ve ever felt “not queer enough.”

If you’re transitioning, maybe you want to vent about all the red tape and institutional gatekeeping involved in our medicalized model of transition, or maybe you’re primarily looking for an assessment and letter of support for surgery. Whatever’s happening for you, my goal is for you to feel seen and heard in our sessions. I want to prioritize your autonomy and self-determination, which is why I use an informed consent model of care.

Contact

To schedule a free 20-minute phone consultation, please reach out using the form below (but please be aware that email and web forms are not secure methods of communication).

We’ll use our phone call to discuss your goals and hopes for therapy, including whether you’d prefer to meet in person or over video. I’ll walk through the logistics of therapy, share a bit about how I work, and answer any questions you might have.

If you want to move forward at the end of the call, we’ll schedule our first session.

You don’t have to be certain about weekly therapy with me to book an initial session, either: those first one to three meetings are a great time for us both to get a better sense of whether we want to work together. If it turns out I’m not the therapist for you, no hard feelings.

I look forward to hearing from you!

If you’re having suicidal thoughts or need help right away, please call 911 or 988 for mental health crisis support.
